This is my first post in this forum. I spend most of my time trying to help others in the tech forums. I'm not into car audio, because in the SF Bay area I can't see spending hours installing a sound system only to have it removed in just a few minutes without my permission. Install an alarm system? forget about it. It doesn't even slow them down. I just enjoy my Bose Lifestyle surround system at home.

Anyway what I'm asking is, where can I get faceplates for radios that don't have them. I buy broken or wrecked MBs for the parts, and once in awhile a car comes with a radio and no faceplate. I have about 3 radios right now. Is there anyplace I can supply serial # or something and buy a faceplate or would it cost as much as a new radio?

I take it the ones needing faceplates are not OEM MB Radios or they are?

Check with cleeve @ lajolla audio.

If they arent oem radios, you could pullt he unit, get the model number and contact the manufatcurer, but expect to pay $$$ to replace a lost faceplate from a radio that has removable ones. almost the cost of a whoel radio.

If they are OEM radios, cleeve may be able to help you.

Thanks for the reply. No,they are not MB, and I sort of Suspected the cost would be close to a new radio. This whole removable BS could have been eliminated years ago with personal codes, but of course it wouldn't have been in the best interest of the radio makers, and the insurance industry could care less. They just up the premiums. Don't get me started. Anyway, thanks again.

Though it may seem too expencive for faces for the radios you have you might give me some model numbers and let me see how much they come to. Can't hurt.

Thank you also for the reply. I'll have to look up the info in my spare time. The priority is not that high. I have a more pressing question since you appear to be in the repair business. As I said in an earlier post, I don't mess with sound systems be they mine or someone elses. I had a Mercedes repair facility in the East Bay for 25 years and closed it a couple of years ago. When I first started, I tried to do everything for the customer including radio and antenna installs. I soon learned I was loosing my ass paying a professional mechanics salary to put in an antenna. We never seemed to have the right connectors or whatever. I quit doing it, and started telling them to go to an audio shop. The problem I have now is I don't know anyone who repairs Beckers. I have about 3 radios including the one in my 560SEL that need the memory battery replaced. I have to leen on my friends at the dealer to reset the code. Do you do that or can you recommend someone in the SF Bay area who does?

The batteries for the BE-612 and BE-754 are available however if you already have DASH lines on the display you will have to go to the dealer to have the radio reset. They are the only people that have the reset device and even they can't buy replacement ones if their's breaks. No longer available. If you don't have DASH lines but do wish to change the battery you can do so by applying 3.6 volts by soldering a temperary battery across where the battery is located (this is needed to hold the memory) then unsolder the old battery and replace it with the new one. Then remove the temperary battery and you are done.

I have had good luck finding faceplates on Ebay. Try entering the model numbers, etc. I've bought several off Ebay before and always see some listed. Good luck.
