Question CD Player options

Hi all,

I am exploring options on how to add a CD player to my ’97 Mercedes E320 Sedan. The current stereo system is OEM (without a changer of course) and I believe it is the Bose option but not sure how to tell, anyone know how? The following are three options I am considering.

1. Add a changer to trunk that will interface to current OEM Becker radio. The changer would cost anywhere from $200 on up. I also have the erratic volume control problem, which will cost about $150 to have repaired.

2. Add an aftermarket CD head unit. For starters, I would not upgrade anything else but the head unit. I have an older Alpine 7805 CD player that I am considering. However, this unit has powered front outputs and line out rear outputs. Can this type of line out configuration be accounted for? I assume that I would need the Becker wiring harness and possibly a line converter. How important is the line out voltage to the factory amp? I do not have the owner’s manual so I do not know the Alpines line out voltage. I am also concerned how this unit will mount. I have searched multiple forums and no one really covers how to mount the head units. This unit is a single din and I have the mounting “cage” but this cage seems to only depend on push out tabs. I was hoping to have something a little more stable such as screws.

3. Add the Mercedes 4602 in dash CD Player, Mercedes part Q 6 82 0410. Does anyone know the approximate cost of this unit? Is it only available from Mercedes dealerships? Does this unit have a lockout code?

Thanks in advance,
Jason

I have recently replaced my original Becker with Q6 82 0410
also known as BE4602 and love it. My car is an SLK so it would
be a smaller area but the bass is great compared to OEM. I got a rebuilt unit from Becker for $322 plus shipping as I recall. I talked
with Ed Ebel at eebel@harmanbecker.us The installation was
all of five minutes. Hope this helps.
