power antenna

have an 83 300d t equipped with the subject. on some of these cold mornings the antenna will not extend automatically because i presume it cannot overcome the ice or whatever it is that prevents its extending. works fine when the ambient temperature is above freezing. my question - what prevents the motor from burning up under these conditions? is there some type of thermal overload devise in the circuit? thank you.

I did some research on this the other day and apparently, there is some type of shut off that automatically responds to resistance. Therefore, it may be fooled because of the resistance and not extend itself.

Fully extend the mast and clean it thoroughly with alcohol (keep it off the paint) and reevaluate operation.

Power Antenna

The antenna clutch mechanism will slip when excessive resistance is encountered and will cause the antenna drive motor to switch off thus saving the motor and drive mehanism from damage.
