Question W126 280SE speakers

I have reviewed the archives for this and the Benzworld forums for messages regarding upgrading speakers in a W126 280SE.

It has been suggested that, with a little metal work, it is possible to fit 6.5 inch speakers in the 4 x 6 rear deck locations.

Has anyone actually done this? Are you able to retain the standard rear deck?

I am looking to install 6.5 inch Canton coaxials in the rear deck, and 6.5 inch Canton splits in the front, with the tweeters in the stock location and custom pods fitting to the front doors, hopefully without inflicting too much damage to the standard trim.

Also, does anyone have any advice on the best way to run a power lead from the battery, through the firewall and back to the boot to power an amp?

Hwew is a pic of the stock grommet in the firewall and there is opening for more wires to go through. As far as 6.5 in speakers in the rear deck I have done that install many times and it does take a little metal cutting and you will need to make a thick baffle board to allow the speaker to sit up to clear the trunk springs!
