Radio switch W124

My 1989 W124 has a Becker Grand Prix radio which only plays old music.
I can have a Becker BE-1492 from a 1995 E320. The face plate is a little bit different and has a CD fonction I will not be using.
Is this a direct fit?. I though the later W124 had a separate amplifier

Yes I did try to change station, LOL
The cassette deck does not work anymore, the preset station buttons do not work anymore, and it only plays on FM (not that I care that much about AM)
This is the real reason I want to replace it.

Adapter Needed

Hi JackD,

There is an adapter available that converts the old plug style (Becker GrandPrix type units) to the Euro style plug (like what is used on the 1492 units). Let me know if you would like to purchase one from me. Contact me via my Web site: www.lajollaaudiorepair.com

Show some respect!!!

mpnye,

I find it disrespectful that you find it necessary to type such a comment on the board. The people that own Mercedes Benz vehicles enjoy and respect their cars and the equipment that is in it. It is true that some people feel the factory systems lack in some areas HOWEVER the majority love their cars for what they deliver, sound systems and all. This forum is here to offer owners or potential owners an opportunity to ask and get answers that would normally cost them money if they went to the dealership. So I ask you politely to please show some respect for the people that wish helpful answers and responces that post to this forum. Thank you.

I have a 1990 190E and I am interested in installing the Becker 1492 or its alpine equivalent in it. How much is the adapter? If I get the adapter, is that all I need? Won't I need some sort of adapter to convert the antenna plug too?

Thanks,
