I have a problem. I was driving my friend's 1996 E230 Avantgarde. Everything was okay until I tried starting it the following morning. It would not start at first but finally did after several attempts. Everything worked fine... but the MB RDS radio asked for a 5-digit pin code. My friend does not know where to obtain this code. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same thing happen after disconnecting the battery - the radio wouldn't activate without a security code. Unfortunately, the previous owner didn't provide the laminated card that has the code on it, and it wasn't written in the owners manual (nor should it be).
So, after giving the VIN to the dealer, they obtained the proper code from the distributor that day and had another card made soon after. If your car is grey market or not properly registered with the distributor, you may have trouble finding out the code. Dean Albrecht 94 E500 |
If the code supplied doesn't work (perhaps the radio's been replaced), then you have to pull the radio and give a dealer the serial # off of the radio chassis. I just went thru this with my 500E!

Hi! Thanks for the reply. His Avantgarde's a grey import and didn't come with the laminated card. He has since decided to sell off the car and getting an S320 to replace it. Thanks a lot!
