Radio Whine & CD Changer

Greetings,

I have a '94 E420. My radio mast broke in December and I replaced it. All seemed fine, except in the last two wees, there is a high piercing whine from the radio. It is not from the speakers, but the radio itself. It sounds kind of like some computer monitor crt's. It doesn't seem to be alternator whine. It bothers me so much that I haven't used the radio much since it started. It does seem to get louder as I turn up the volume, and it is noticeably worse in AM, than FM.

I was considering adding an Alpine CD changer (assuming I can fix the whine). Can someone suggest the Alpine model numbers and identify the cable I would need for a '94 E420?

Thanks.

Carl

Radio is whining

I hate it when radio's whine. I guess you shouldn't have yelled at it so hard. Ha Ha. Just teasing. Anyway, I believe you may have a Mercedes/Alpine radio model CM 2194 or CM 2294. Those radios had problems in the amplifier section and required repair/updating. So did the CM2296 units as well. We did some research on the problems that occured with these models and found that there were quite a few parts that were or had a tendency to fail. There is hope for your radio. Becker doesn't service those model radios but have been refering them to us for repairs. Let me know if you would like me to take care of your radio problems.
