Help.. Front speaker questions on W126??? I searched, and searched..
I have an 89 W126, with a 6 speaker setup.. Looks like two way speakers in the rear deck.. Woofers in the doors, and mid/tweeters in the dash...
I want to re-wire the system to eliminate the fader, and the factory amps..I have a 4 chanel Sony head unit.. I'm assuming that the rear speakers will be easy enough to run a couple of wires back there to hook them up.. My confusion comes with the front.. Are the door woofer/ dash tweeter connected in parallel??? If so, where is the best place to connect a speaker wire for them to work??? Can I just connect the wire to the dash speaker, and have the woofer work too??? Will someone that has done this shed a little light on the best method to accomplish this.. Thanks so much, Jay

Run all four sets of speaker wires back to the stock amps located behind the rear seatback. Though you're going to be bypassing those amps, that location provides an easy access point to wires for all of the car's speakers.
Hope this helps...

Here is a pic of the wiring diagram and it gives you the pin outs at the amps in the back. Ck the plugs as they are # to match the diagram. Good luck! I usually replace th dash speakers with a 4x6 two way speaker as the factory only uses a 3.5" mid in the dash with no tweeter in the front and 4 tweeters in the rear.......
What were they thinking??????? Scott@lajollaaudio

Absolutely awsome...
No telling how much time that has saved me.. I probably never would have bought this car if I had not known that this forum existed.. So far, I have been able to solve every problem I've had via this forum.. One other question before I get started.. If I understand correctly, the amps are located in the trunk, on the passenger side behind the carpet panel, is that correct????
Thanks for your invaluabe help, Jay |

Reread my original post...
Amps are behind the rear section of your backseat (NOT in the trunk). They are located on either side, midway up. Remove the backseat (seat cushion first followed by the back section) and you can't miss them.
Should be a snap from there using the wiring diagram Scott provided. (Make sure to keep your polarities straight!)

Wow.. Thanks for all of the help..
One other quick question... Can someone suggest an inexpensive 4x6 speaker that will be a easy fit into the dash??? The mids that are there have a pretty funky shape...
Will any standard 4x6 fit????? Thanks, Jay |
