LOCK -Changing radio - 1993 190e 2.6 casette

1993 190e 2.6 casette with holder for 6 casettes above radio.

Radio says 'LOCK' and I have the passcode but it doesn't ever to to 'CODE' so can enter it. Guess I need to look for a new radio. There is no rational reason for the antitheft circuitry to kick in.

Questions:

1) I know the antenna connection is Euro and the new radio antenna connection will be Motorola...are there adapters of will I need to change the power antenna as well.

2) Is the physical mounting situation a hassle? I put a new Sony in my F-car and it came with a 'cage' but I am not familiar with the MB mounting situation.

3) I would like to get CD style as I don't own any casettes...are there double height radios which fit? What have you used sucessfully.

4) Is there an answer for 'LOCK' besides the garbage can?

Can't help you with the "Lock" situation on the deck, however if you remove the radio and the cassette holders, you will have a double DIN space, but due to the shape of the opening, you'll have to get some sort of adapter piece.

As a truly interesting extreme, a euro 190 owner just recently had an MB Comand unit installed in the space, so now his diesel has GPS with voice instructions, CD and the inputs for video!

Radio Lock Problem

Hi Paul,
You may want to try and leave the radio powered in the ACC switch mode of your car for 24 hours with no interruption of the switch. That may allow you then to have it go back into the CODE mode. The other alternative is send me the radio and have me check it out. If it will come out of lock mode with minimal effort I will only charge a minimum charge and not a repair charge. If the code is unresponsive then an exchange can be made but at the repair price. Let me know if you are successful.

Radio locked

When I headed out to purchase another radio this morning my wife decided to 'fess up' saying "would it make any difference if I had left the lights on and had to call AAA for a jump?, cuz I did"

So....new piece to the puzzle. I could not account for any reason for the radio to get into this theft lock mode except that it was bezerk (technical term). Since the battery ran down and a possible spike during jump may have invaded the radio, I will attempt something. Not sure what yet....thanks for the 24 hr suggestion I will try it first.

Will report back any success to aid the next poor bloke whose wife leaves the lights on.

Post Lock - Radio - Unlock success

Turns out that one needs the radio AND ignition on for 15-30 minutes before the LOCK changes to CODE and then the code number can be entered. Came that close to buying a new replacement radio. Accidently fell into the solution when on a long drive (going to the grocery store wasn't long enuf) I tried to mess with the tape player to see if it too was locked out. It was. Left the radio turned ON and after a bit I looked down to see the word CODE appear, punched in the numbers and voila.
