Popping Speakers!
Hello all,
Yesterday, the speakers started making a loud popping sound and also heavy static noise. All four speakers at the same time. It would stop and then start up again during the trip. Any idea of what my problem may be. The car is a 93 190E. Original radio. Speakers were replaced around December, but I do not believe that the speakers are the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

check the connections at the fader switch in the center console, or the switch itself.

Thank you MTI, I will check it now.
I did unplug the switches a week ago to work on the shifter. I hope that is the problem. It would be a cheap fix!

Best of luck and hope that it is the fader connector. I constantly debate whether to bypass that switch someday . . .

Popping Sound
Hi mbdad,
I believe you have an Alpine/Mercedes CM2191 Head unit. The reason you probably had to change the speakers recently was due to the Head unit going bad. The problem is that there is DC voltage constant on the speaker lines which is death to speakers after a while. You probably found the front speakers were shorted or burned out when you had them changed. That is what the DC will do to them and the front speakers are more easily damaged. Your radio needs repair before you wind up losing another set of speakers. Let me know if you need me to service it for you.
