Stereo Upgrades for a '96 E-Class
I just bought a '96 E300 (W210) and it has the OEM head unit and trunk mounted CD changer. Doesn't sound too bad but I'm not thrilled. Is there anything I can do to clean up the sound (new amp, speakers, etc). I'd like to leave the head unit in it as I like the clean look but am entertaining all options right now.
Thanks in advance, Munsey

Stereo Upgrades for a '96 E-Class
Just did what you're thinking and I would say it improve the overall sound. (about 50%)This is with some cheap amps (sorry to have done this but money is tight) with component MB quarts in the front and 2 way in the rea, now the exciting part, my installer was able to sueeze 2 8" JL audio in the factory opennings without any cutting and it brought some serious bass.(not the bling bling type)I spent almost 1K for this now I'm thinking of changing the head unit with pop out DVD player. Oh well just a thought...enjoy...

That is probably the way I'll go down the road. I just got back from a trip to the beach and was somewhat surprised with the sound quality overall. It doesn't suck, but could be improved.
However, I am unimpressed with the quality of the drivers seat and will be replacing/rebuilding that POS first. Thanks for the input. Munsey

If you are looking for a simple upgrade for sound quality... Just replace the radio. After replacing the OEM unit with a good aftermarket, it then did it sound like a Bose :-)

I did that in my '95 and loved the sound (Alpine 7892). The only thing is that I would like to maintain the stock look and even the clean looking aftermarket radios don't quite look right.
What did you put in yours? Got any pictures. I may just be too picky. Munsey

I have my radio now installed where the pocket is underneath the stock radio. I left the stock radio where it is :-)

Wow! Do they both work or is the stock one for show only? Is the sliding door still attached or did you have to pull it? I'd love to see the setup. Post a pic if you can get one.
