Antenna cable ?

I have a 95 S350 Turbo .. Love the car, all orgional, radio, etc.. FM stations pick up good, but AM not unless I am parked under the broadcast tower. I read other post, said this was common, to check ground of antenna.. Yesterday I was checking that and found that, there is not a cable connected to the anenna at all.. Just the elect power wires. My wifes car is a 92 300SE and I looked at it and found it has a cable attached to a fitting just under the fender mount. The 95 S350 has the same antenna with this fitting, but I can not find a cable that will fit into it. There are other non connected wires in the area, but I assume they are for a CD and the phone if equipped.
I have had the radio out of the dash, and there is a cable plugged into the back of it.
Any suggestions as to where I should start traceing from and why this may not be connected?
thanks,

there should be a metal tube coming from the antenna tot he plastic body of the antenna motor. try seeing if that tube is grounded. if not, ground it.

Ground wires are solid brown in a benz. so I would start there. you could always run your own ground wire from some bare metal of the body to the metal part of the antenna housing.

thanks for the reply Ashman, but in looking at your answer to me and then my orgional post, I see I left out a key bit of info.
What I meant to say is there is not an antenna cable connected to the antenna that connects to the radio. the coxial cable is not there

wait so the cable running from the antenna to the radio the coax cable is not there at all? or just not hooked up to the antenna in the back but is on the back of the radio?

If that is the case, look for a black cable with a silver threaded end on it, with a pin in the middle.

Otherwise you will have to try to find a cable to run to the radio.
