W210 (E320) CD changer questions

I have seen TWO brackets for the E-class (W210) CD changer. I was wondering if anyone here has the original MB changer with MB install kit actually installed in the FACTORY location. If so, can you please send me pictures of what it looks like installed? I have a few questions.

I have found the harness and have tested my cd changer. It works. I know that the changer goes inside the little "pocket" on the floor of the trunk on the driver side.

I have acquired a potpourri of brackets and MB logo dust covers but I want to know what comes in the factory install kit.

I can take pictures and send them to anyone who might be able to help me identify what needs to go where.

I know there are only two brackets made for this car and I have one of them for sure but it doesn't line up with the holes in the trunk. Which is the correct one?

Here is a picture of the bracket I have:

Here is a picture of the other E320 (W210) bracket:

Also, what is the point of this "soft case":

How would it be used in this installation? How would the cable get inside and how would the bracket mount if this soft case is used?

Is that "soft case" to be used with this "dust cover":

Any help sorting all these parts out is appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi!

I have a 2000 E320 ... which may or may not use the same mounting hardware (since there were various changes in the 2000 model year). I will get back to you with what I can see ... perhaps take a few pics, if possible.

As for the soft cover ... it protects the CD changer from any impact from stuff flying around the trunk. The top "lid" is probably the best feature, as it is on a hinge-like set-up, which allows you to cover / protect the top of the CD changer from projectiles. If something wereto hit the top of the CD changer, it could cause mayhem! Generic versions of these soft covers are sold on the retail market for upwards of $49 at Circuit City, etc ... but should only sell for about $19 - $29 (I picked up a few a while back, for various cars, for $19 / closeout).

As for the cabling of the hardware ... there should be some sort of opening at the bottom or side of the case, to allow you access to plug in the cable(s). Some of these covers may require you to attach mounting hardward THROUGH the cover ... I'm not sure how the OEM covers work ... I'd have to look at mine.

Question

What is the factory location for a cd changer? I have a 1998 e320. I have added an Alpine mp3 cd changer, and now am looking for the best permanent position. Right now it is stashed under the rear seat next to the battery. this is a great location as it does not take any trunk space, but changing cds is a bit inconvenient.

I believe the factory location is on the left hand side of the trunk, mounted in the back portion of the pocket, for lack of a better term.

Technique,

I have the bottom ( Black ) bracket installed in my 98 E320. The holes lined up perfectly on the edge of the well on the driver side of the car. I would like to know where did you get the dust cover? I would like to get one for my car.

It came with the changer bracket I bought on ebay... I believe you can get the dust cover from the dealer, or just look on ebay, I have seen them for sale by themselves before.

Good luck! I can't believe this thread is still alive! lol

I bought an alpine MP3 changer. I got the Mercedes adapter, but it has the same harness I found behind the trunk cover both male. Has anyone else had this problem? or is there another harness the car has that I am missing? Thanks! Indy

...from aging memory, I believe it may be on the RIGHT side, behind the
wheel vs the LEFT side of my 99 and 2000 E320 sedans. look for bright
orange twin lead...possibly tied again nearby harness.

I briefly thought about cutting a hole in the front of that little compartment, on the left side (across from the battery). In the absence of children in the back seat, it would be a great place for the CD player to poke through. If it looked easy to cut and subsequently reinforce that body part, I'd do it, but alas, it doesn't look easy at all.

My next thought is under the heater box, above the passenger's footwell. There looks to be enough space there to do it safely.

I really dislike the trunk location. I have no clue how people can think that this is acceptable.

I dont find the trunk location to be acceptable...which is why I picked up
the Audio 10. Kept the M-B look inside (no blue ice for me), but still co-existed
with the MC3010 in the trunk.

Audio 10

Whats an Audio 10 and where did u install it. I saw an idea in one of these forums about using an ipod for better music quality and takes up less space but the person did not say where and how they installed i. I mean I know it most likely cnn't be controlled by the radio's cd option . So I'm waiting for this person to post an answer. Whats an Audio 10?

Audio 10 is MB labeled head unit. AM/FM/SW, single slot CD (non-MP3) and can
control D2B fiber changer.

the top picture seems to be for a wagon. Can you find a part number for that? I have been looking for that for a long time. the second one is for a sedan.
