Radio Wiring

Where would you wire an aftermarket radio to? The 84 300 I am working on has had its original radio removed and the wiring butchered. A direct connection to the battery seems to run the battery down; any suggestions? Thanks

Radio Wiring

The original wiring in my two '82 300Ds connects the radio to the cigarette lighter connection through a short harness. I would connect yours there. It shouldn't run the battery down that way.
Assuming your after-market radio has a clock and internal station memory, it will also need a connection that is always hot. The fuse block can be a bear to get to, so I would connect that wire either directly to the positive terminal on the battery or to the hot side of the rear seat light switch. The rear seat light switch on mine is on the left at the top of the center console.

Hope that helps...

If all they did was cut into the factory Becker harness, you can replace that harness then order a direct plug-in one from Crutchfield to plug into your aftermarket receiver. Then you'll always have the option of going back to stock should you wish. The part number for the factory Becker harness to put the car back to stock is 126-820-80-15.
