Putting a basslink in the trunk... Need to get a big wire back there.. Is there an easy passage through the firewall??? Where???
Thanks so much, Jay

There is a plastic cap in a hole on one the passenger side of the firewall not sure where it leads though. My audio people drilled a small hole in the plastic sleeve on the drivers side th covers the steering wheel workings i think.

Here is a pic of the gommet on the pass side if you cut the nipple off this will allow you to push the wire through this hole and find it behind the glove box.

You should fuse the positive lead about 2"-3" away from the battery and fuse the negative, which should be short and going to the chassis in the trunk.
That rubber boot is exactly where I sent the 4AWG thru for my car. Ran it across the inside back of the dash, down the driver's side of the center console, under the carpets up behind the back seat and into the trunk. I think there was already a rubber grommet in the back seat wall for passing electrical wires to the trunk. Pretty easy job, actually. In my 1985 300DT. :-) Good luck. |

basslink
jay3000,
"my wife will be happy to have bass again". Just like me I assume you plan to install the basslink in the huge trunk. My question is can clean and sharp bass still be clearly and comfortably heard/felt all the way in the passenger cabin, without really cranking up the sub-woofer (and disturb the neighbors)? Andy

I have subs in my sd and i had to make some minor modifications for the bass to be heard louder and cleaner. I think im going to cut out the lids for the storage and first aid kit and replace them with some sort of speaker grill as i have already taken the traays out.

I listened with the lid opened, and then closed on the side that I removed the tray, and I could not tell any difference.. I thought about mounting the basslink in the rear deck.. Looks like it would fit.. Bet that would pump out some good bass then....

I just completed my subwoofer install on my 300DT. I agree. These MB trunks just suck up the subwoofers. I had to crank everything up while still watching the input levels so as not to distort it. I now get good lows but I'm really surprised. I'm pushing an enclosed 12" Infinity around 300W. She could do more and I'm honestly wondering if I should ramp up to a bigger amp. More power!

Sounds clean inside.. Outside of the trunk, it sounds like the trunk's gonna explode...

Mine's not that bad. I don't really crank it like the kids do these days. I like my hearing. ;-) If you want clear bass I think you'll need at least 400W into two 10" or one 12". I wouldn't go with a 15" though.
What I'm now planning is to install tactile transducers, such as Aurasound's bass shaker Pro, under the front seats. I'm a drummer so I need to feel the kick, and that should do it. |
