anyone have CDA-7897 install pics? will it fit my 500E?

Hey guys, i'm looking in to getting the Alpine CDA-7897, where the face comes out completely and retracts to hide. The only thing is, from the pics i've seen, it looks like when it comes out, it slides up a little bit. I'm wondering if that will hit the climate control shelf that is overtop of our section for headunits in the 500E.

That stupid shelf causes so many problems!! :P

Anyone have pics of an install of it? It doesn't have to be on a W124, any car at all will work. Thanks!

Hey Hedpe,
I think it will be a problem, I looked at them in the store the other day. They stick up far enough that I think it would hit the overhang from the A/C control panel.

Are you down on the 9813 ?
I would really like a pre-amp only unit. No sense paying for or heating a small set of amps that aren't being used.

If only the 7995 was all black....

hey all, i went to 6th ave as the ycarry that system but they said there is no way i can have that in my 1992 400 e unless i put an extension to it adn it will be sticking out and keep one another thing in min das soon as u turn it off it goes in all teh time there is no option that u can have it open i also inquired through tweeters and they said teh same thing the new ones arent bad so go with i think 9813 that looks great

Yeah the 7897 def doesn't fit. I ordered the 9815 today. It looks 3x better than the 9813. The 9813 has green or amber buttons, which CLASHES big time with the blue text. It looks really odd. The 9815 on the other hand has blue buttons, blue text, and can output more characters than the 9813.

They have it to order for $348, that's over $150 cheaper than most audio stores have it for.

I'd definately take it over the 9813...and well i did :P

Nice pick! I'm thinking of upgrading mine as well. I've got an AiNet CD changer and an older TDA-7583 head unit (I used to need to listen to cassettes from our band - now we have a digital studio, so we can burn CDs instead). I might go for the 9815 instead - great unit!

I totally agree on the looks.
My local shop just re-opened after being closed for 6 months due to a fire. I stopped by last night and saw all the new eclipse and alpine. The 9815 is the alpine I would choose. I still want want something simpler......

I want the Denon...

That Denon looks very elegant! I didn't know Denon had got into car audio?? Cool. That unit would match the interior of many Mercedes very well.

Now, if only Marantz would start to make car audio...;)

Denon has always been in the car audio business, their reputation went downhill a while back.

They stopped their US distribution, but have a couple really nice, high end units $1500+ but they are on par with the Mac and old Nak CD700.

There is a US importer now but I don't know if they are really stable either.

I am investigating.....

Eclipse makes simple looking units, i saw them at the shop too, i'm a fan. I'm a fan of alpine though, what can i say?
