slight static radio and cd, any ideas
Hi All,
I've got a Nak head unit running output to my stock amps, wiring and speakers in the 500e. Lately I've noticed poor sound quality in the highs, particularly at highway speeds over rough pavement. I've checked wiring and everything looks ok. Anyone have any experience with MBZ amps going bad? Is it likely that my head unit is going? Regards,

What eminates from your speakers isn't effected by what you're driving on, but your perception of it can be changed. Have you recently cranked your stereo, possibly blowing the tweeters on them? It is possible an IC or something in your amp has bit the dust. Have you listened to the speakers with the engine off? Do they sound blown? Also, if you're hearing cracking it could also be a bad connection to the speaker or amp, however I doubt that's your problem. If all else fails, go to a store that has a lax return policy, like Best Buy, buy a comparable amp, hook it up and see...or rather hear.. what the speakers sound like then. If you hear a significant difference you know it's your old amp. If not, you can always return the amp for your $ back. Then it may be your speakers.
Forgot to mention it could also be an dead IC in your head unit. Lastly, are you running an EQ? If so, there could be a problem with it. |

Thanks,
It sounds fine standing still. I'm not running an EQ. I'll go back to the installer and see if they can test. Nak has a 2 yr. warranty, so hopefully that's the problem.

Tonight I traced the problem to a blown filter module between the head unit and factory amp. We put this in when we installed the Nakamichi head unit to filter out hiss at very low volume due to amp out (not pre-amp out) running into an amp?. When I eliminated the filter, the distortion disappeared; the hiss is mildly tolerable. Thanks again for your input.
