Need wiring diagram for 96 SL500 stereo harness.

I would like to add an aftermarket receiver to my 96 SL500 and would prefer to keep the existing wiring, speakers and amps, and would prefer to not cut any wiring at all. To this end I was hoping to make my own harness for the stereo.

Does anyone have a source for a) preferebly a wiring harness that just plugs in? I dont mind splicing my aftermarket to the harness, I just dont want to cut mercedes wires. Or failing that b) a wiring diagram which showed me which color wire goes where, including speakers, speed sensor, etc etc., I will splice into the mercedes wires if I have to, or makemy own harness.

Thanx much!!!

Don't cut into the current wiring harness. I understand that Becker has a harness that plugs into the factory harness. Think of it as an extension cable for your radio. You can take this harness and plug it in between the radio and the car harness. Not sure why you would ever need to do that, but you can take this harness, cut the unneeded end off, and wire/solder the aftermarket harness to it, thus making your own. You'd also need an antenna adapter as well, which can be purchases many places including Circuit City.

Here's becker's website.

According to them, this is the pinout for all mercedes harnesses from 94-97

Thanx much! They are sending me the harness, very cool. They are also sending me the print out of the wiring. Now for my next question. My new aftermarket receiver has 35X4w outputs, but no subwoofer output. How do I hook it up so I dont lose the subwoofer sound?

Looking at the wiring diagram I dont see a wire for the subwoofer, I am assuming the subwoofer just gets an input from the amp? Have I gotten lucky here? Looks like I dont need to worry about the sub after all?

Well, got my harness today... they sent me the wrong one... or at least the one they sent me wont work. one end is correct for plugging into the radio, but not the vehicle radio harness.... oh well, I'll call back monday.

Any way that I can get a copy of the wiring diagram? It "may" just be the same as my car.

Will post em up when I get them. I have a feeling though they are the same as the ones you posted.
