Good Info: Radio harness for 94-97 vehicles

Folks,

If you have a 94 to 97 Mercedes, your stock radio harness should look like this:

http://www.beckerautosound.com/1492.html

Do not cut this or let anyone cut this if you are replacing the stereo. Call Becker parts dept. at 888 423 3537 x1209 and ask for the "M-Class adapter". It should be item number
"5000.453-276". Should be around $19.55.

This adapter has 2 ends, one that connects to your car's harness and the other end connects to your radio. Of course, as this is made for the M-class, the the wires are not exactly straight through. Anyway, you can cut this harness in half (using the end that goes to your car harness) and make a custom adapter for any radio you'd like. I bought 2 and plan to use one to make a DIN-ISO ---> Alpine connector.

Willy

Yes, your right... but you shouldn't care about how this harness is wired... you will be cutting it and using it to make your own adapter. Remember, this one was specifically made for the M-class, not the 94-97 vehicles.

The hardess I have has pin 1 missing on the A plug. This is generally used for Speed dependent volume control (GAL).

oh yea....

if you do need to connect the GAL wire, you can probably move pull out the the #2 wire and pin on A and move it to #1. #2 is not used.

I just received this adaptor and am a bit confused. On mine the A plug has the 1 and 2 pins reversed, that is there is a wire going to the 2 pin, but no wire going to the 1 pin. I forget the color wire, but will check tonight and post the color. I have yet to pull the radio to see if this matches the plug in the auto.

I just dont know what color goes to what feature. It would help a lot with wiring the aftermarket stereo. I will check back after I pull thehead unit.

I wish they had posted colors on their wiring diagram like 99% of other wiring diagrams have.

But you should be able to figure it out from the diagram on the becker page. Besides, if you have the CDs for your vehicle, the diagram is in there with wire colors as well.

Maybe you can get someone to send you a copy of the PDF file from the CD.

CD's for my vehicle? I was under the impression that they were not released from MB yet since the 230 just was released. Im sure I can figure most of the wiring out, but it would be nice to be 100% certain. Of course this harness makes my life so much easier, and makes cutting into my baby not necessary.
