Scott, can you help?

I have a 1992 500sl. Recently the cd player and radio both will kind of cut in and out. The sound goes from a "deep" sound with good bass to a "tin" sound with no bass. This change doesn't seem to be dependant on dumps in the road. No popping sound. Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Sounds like the sub amp is having a problem. Either it is loosing its 12 volt trigger from the tuner module (black wire) or it has an internal problem. The amp can be found under the pass side floor board.

Scott-

Thanks so very much for your help!

Is it located under the seat?

Can you give me an idea of the best way to check it?

It is not under the seat it is where your feet go if you were sitting in the pass seat hence floorboard. I would pull the carpeting down and remove the metal plate and get to the amplifier (it has a becker sticker on it and check out the small black wire with a test licht and listen to the stereo and if the test licht goes out when the door subs cut out then there is a turn on problem witht the tuner module or a bad connection. Other wise you can send your amp to my repair center and we can rebuild it and send it back to you. If you need to contact my repair center you can @ www.lajollaaudiorepair.com
