Hirschmann antenna connector
Does anyone know what type of coax connector Hirchmann uses on their power antennas ? I want to use the antenna on my '96 E-Class for a handsfree kit but there is no coax running to it yet.

It is not propriatary but it is something that most shops won't have unless they do a lot of cellular work. It is a called a SMA connector and might be found at the MBZ dealer. I have it in stock if you need it.

If it's an SMA then these can be found at a good electronics shop (where they sell resistors, etc). Radio Shack doesn't have them though. Check around to a few ham radio or cellular install shops, if you have any near you. They should go around $3.00-$5.00/each. I prefer the solder-on type over the crimp because the connection's better and lasts longer.

Thanks...is it a male or female connector. I am guessing female since I can't see any threads on the neck of the areial...looks like the threads must be on the inside where the cable screws in.

I just tried installing a SMA adapter and it did not fit. The connector I need is for the neck of the power antenna.

Hirshmann Antenna connector
If the connector has a sleeve with a nut that spins with threads, and it threads into an receptacle it is a "Hirshmann FNE connector, their product # was 927950-007. I picked up a couple years ago when I wanted to run my hand held into the splitter on the tri band antenna. The antenna looks like a mini UHF or something if it has threads on the ouside, have not looked at it lately

Thanx...yeah the threads are on the inside of the neck...the female SMA was too small. I was thinking about getting a splitter and running my handhelds cpdp modem through it also. How is that working for you ?

I haven't had need to look at the antenna connector, but is it possible to put another type of connector on there or is one end hardmounted into the body of the antenna motor? If both sides are on a cable that you can cut, why not replace the connectors with something readily available?

In the 1996 E-Class the power antenna is only for the phone and does not have any coax running to it unless you have the handsfree kit. I am putting in a handsfree for my Nextel but want to use the original antenna rather than getting a through glass antenna. My kit will operate the antenna so I just need to hook the antenna cable up and it is finished.
