Cool 93' 190e Alpine trunk CD changer vs. OEM

I'm considering purchasing a used Merc OEM (93' 190e) CD changer from a forum member but I've heard that the Merc OEM may have difficulty reading CD-R which I listen to a lot.

My OEM head unit is made by Alpine who also makes a trunk changer under their own brand name that can plug and play (with an adapter); I think it is the Alpine CHM5620.

While both options are made by Alpine is there a performance difference when it comes to reading CD-R? or any other aspects?

Thanks
