Question Removal of Alpine 7180 on '79 300TD

The installation instructions for the cassette/radio unit (Alpine 7180) in my 1979 300TD wagon describe using a fold-down handle to remove the unit. I don't see any handle; instead it appears to be set in some kind of anti-theft bracket that might require a special tool. The unit is not made accessible by removing the ashtray. Any tips on how to remove the unit? The audio system stopped working after I disconnected some wires underneath the dash. I was looking to splice into a wire that only had current when the ignition was turned on. After reconnecting the wires, now neither the radio nor the cigarette lighter have power. I was going to look behind the unit for some kind of connection I may have loosened inadvertently. Would the power source be the same for the radio and the cigarette lighter?
