Antenna Upper Grommet
I just replaced my kinked up antenna mast and the upper grommet. While fitting in the new grommet I don't think I got it to "snap" in. It feels snug but the edges are not resting completely flush against the body. My old grommet had several cracks on it so it was already coming apart. And I don't have a reference as to how it should look properly installed. Am I just being overly concerned?

You did pull the antenna to put the grommet in didn't you?
If so, and it doesn't leak, it's fine. Peter

Yes...I installed the grommet prior to installing the new mast. Just for my own FYI...does the antenna have a drain for water that must get into it?
Thanks for the info either way!

Remove the entire antenna assembly not just the mast. You have 2 bolts/nuts holding the antenna. Pull back the trunk carpet on that side and remove the 2 bolts/nuts that hold the antenna assembly. Lower the antenna so that the unit is no longer in the hole. The grommet will mold to the body once it is rotated to the right direction ( prior to installing the antenna). Replace the grommet and I used some silicon spray to insert the antenna assembly back in. Attach the 2 mounting screws and you done. Use the silicon spray on the mast to lubricate it.

I also noted that, at least on the 560, you have to turn the grommet once it is seated to line the angle with that of the body. Makes for a nice flush fit.

Antenna grommet
I had to figure out why the new upper grommet would not seat properly so I took the antenna off again. Well the culprit was the lower grommet. It had disintegrated into a flaky rubbery blob which the upper grommet could not snap onto anymore. So I ordered a new lower grommet from FastLane and presto it snapped right into place, flush against the body and everything.
Moral of the story...don't skim on a $6 piece of plastic. Replace both the upper and lower grommet at the same time.
