Lightbulb rear deck on a '79 300d

I was thinking that in order to get more air to a sub in the trunk would it be possible to remove the rear deck and cut out a large space and maybe replace the carpet with speaker grill cloth?
Site members told me that the back panel behind the rear seat couldn't be cut, would possible to do this?
If anyone has done this please post or is this sounds like a totally ridiculous idea feel free to post!
Thanks in advance,
HogLeg

You could remove the first aid box and cover the hole with speaker grille cloth too.

i've cut it before. it can be done with a cut off wheel, and the bass sounds pretty decent (i had 2 15's at the time). e-mail me if u want any pictures.
