Power Antenna Not Working
Hi everyone,
I did a search on this topic but can't seem to find a problem that mirrors what my 1994 C280 is doing. The power antenna just stopped working yesterday. The motor doesn't make any noise, so it isn't trying to extend or retract the mast. Does anyone know what this could be? Is there perhaps a fuse that has blown? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jonathan |

I feel sorry for your because nobody has replied. However, I will be getting my 1st Mercedes soon, a 91 300E 2.6. Until then, I know nothing about Mercedes.
As far as SAAB's, if this happened, I would check 1. fuses (located in the engine compartment near the left or port side). 2. check to see that the antenna is not rusty and stuck. Try wiping it with some oil. 3. replace the antenna mast. Inside is a plastic threaded piece that sometimes breaks. SAAB antenna mast cost about $20 or so. |

do you hear the antenna motor making noise?? If so, the mast might just be stuck. WD-40 that mast and if that does not work. Buy a replacement one off ebay.com They are around $20.

Thanks for the reply. The motor isn't making any noise at all, so I'm afraid the whole thing has to go. The power antenna for the W202 chassis costs a fortune, so I think I'm just going to go with a fixed antenna instead. These seem to be readily available.

The antenna fuse is in the trunk near the battery. You should check it before you replace.

Repair your hirschman antenna.....It is uncommon for the electric motor inside the antenna housing to go-out. If indeed it did it is easily replaceable ! Let me know...I just rebuilt mine.

If you decide to get another power antenna, search out the OEM replacement because the "universal" Hirschmans don't wire up like the OEM antennas, and you'll have spend time with test clips trying to sort out the wiring. Check recycle yards like Potomac or Silverstar if there's not one near you.

jlomon,
Splash-out on a DVM, you'll never regret spending the $15 or so. It's then easy to check from the Fuesbox to the Stereo and then to the antenna motor to see where the volts stop. Once you have localised the problem, chances are an electrical connection has just gone high-resistance....(or maybe fallen off).
