Antenna mast
Fastlane has 2 types of antenna masts. Toothed 1105mm and smooth 915mm. I'm not sure what I need for my 1983 300sd. Does anyone know which one my car takes also how dificutl of a procedure is replacing the antenna mast? thanks.

I would be interested in the same information. I need to replace the mast on my 300d and 450slc.
Thanks for any info, Scott

This is best done with a helper. Unscrew the mast from the top until it is loose. Then use the manual up/down switch to raise the antenna until you can see the nylon part. Then you will know whether it is smooth or toothed. To replace the mast, simply keep raising until all of the nylon part is out. To replace, feed in the end and have the helper press the down button.

Well I pulled mine just now and was wondering if it had the right one in it. It looks to be original (looks vintage '76) and has the Hirschman funny h on the top however, it seems to be a smooth belt but has what appears to be slight gear marks up and down it. Is this normal or did someone replace a toothed one mistakenly with a smooth one in the past?

adiaw83, I'll try and borrow my buddies digital camera and take a pic of mine. I picked up a cheap one on ebay for like $10... most are around 15 but I have no idea as to quality. The ones on fast lane are Hirschman (OEM) at ~$25-$35. Hopefully if we keep this topic near the top someone that has done it before can help. Anyone have a pic?
Thanks, Scott

The smooth nylon antennas have the little tooth marks because the wheel that they are wound on has little serrations, per se, to grip the nylon to facilitate movement of the antenna.
Junk yard is a good place to get antenna parts, I got a whole unit for 5 bucks, and I was able to make one good one out of two for the 240D, now it works perfectly, just as it did from day 1.
