Talking 1989 190e with electronic Becker Grand Prix

Hello all,

I have a few questions regarding an audio upgrade.
I wish to change the existing head unit and the four speakers.

1. If I purchase a 'hi-power' deck, does the existing becker wiring harness have all the speaker wires for the four speakers? Or will I have to modify the console fader to get all the wires?

2. How do I remove the existing head unit? My car has a solid wood panel below the becker (above the ashtray)

3. I understand that I can install 6-1/2" speakers in the rear. Will i have to remove the parcel shelf or can i just remove the stock grilles and install the speakers

Thanking you in advance,
Walter

All speaker wires should be there... but you would still want to rewire the fader so that it is taken out of the equation. See other posts for details.

You may want to ask these questions at 190Rev or at least do a search of the forum there. I know a few people that have fitted 6x9's but they had to cut some metal underneath the rear deck.
