any common cause that anyone knows of ?

Speakers are pretty simple to troubleshoot since failure of both the left and right at the same time is pretty rare. My first thought would be to check the front/back fader switch. If the switch is clean and properly plugged in, then I might remove the speaker grills and check the speaker function with a small alkaline battery.

I was planning that tonight. Both are dead, the right one was exhibiting some on/off behavior so we replaced both with Rainbows, sounded fine.

I will check the fader and the amp in back.
