W140 rear shelf woofers

What would cause these two seperate but simultaneous problems in the rear shelf woofers of a '92 500SEL: The driver's side pair "squeals" with varying high frequencies but no actual sound output, while the passenger side pair works intermittantly then go into very loud "thump thump thump" mode. I'm assuming it has something to do with the Bose amp. I had to disconnect all four just to be able to get a radio you could listen to. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is the bose amplifier and it needs to be rebuilt. We can usually handle a 1 day turn around on an exchange amplfier check in with cleeve at www.mercedesradiorepair.net .
