Question for the W124 experts

I was checking out several high(er) end stereo shops yesterday. A few of them suggested that instead of mounting speakers in the door panels (they were familiar with the Jehnert enclosure - new map pocket that allows for TWO 6.5 inch drivers) that I try a kick panel fiberglass enclosure. One of the guys has done this on a W126 S-Class and the front imaging and soundstage were superb. The best price I got for the fabrication was $400 (at a GOOD shop too). I'm a bit stuck on what to do now - I really want to personally hear BOTH enclosures in a W124 before making my decision!

Ideally I want a 3-way component set in front - mids in the dash, tweeters molded into the A-pillars or sail panels, and a 6.5 driver in the door panel or fabricated kick panel. If anyone has done either, I'd love to know about it.

Both myself and Scott (run.exe) have the Jehnert door panels. Scott got his panels installed at the same shop that did mines, as I refered him to this shop.

Scott (as far as I know) is only running one 6.5 in each door, were as I am running the complete setup, two 6.5, one 4 inch and one tweet.

Since you are in the Bay Area, you are welcome to listen to my setup. Email me.

Do the Jehnert enclosures work on 300e's? If so where can I get them and how much?

Thanks.

I'm interested in the Jenherts or kick panels for my 300CE. If someone gets a set of kick panels made, I wonder if the shop would be willing to make two sets and knock off a few bucks?

Weren't those Jenhert panels pretty expensive?

I was browsing their website and it seems the 300ce panels have 4 speakers in each panel. I thought the 300ce had the same length doors as the 300e but I guess not.

I ordered the full Jehnert setup (W124 sedan) and hope to receive it any day now. Here's the URL:

http://www.jehnert.de/en/

Bare doorboards (no speakers) are roughly $400 USD, and the full kit with all eight MB Quart speakers, dash adapter plates, doorboards, and crossover is about $900 USD. After you do the research (and math), it's actually a reasonable price. And yes, the coupe has MUCH longer doors, allowing four drivers per side (wow).

Shanta, how do you like yours - how does it sound? Do you have a sub or just the Jehnert setup? I won't be able to install mine for a few months so I'm itching to know what it will be like. Got a Nakamichi CD-700 head unit too (mmmm!)

I have a 15 in trunk. I went with a complete Jehnert setup but I pieced mines together. I did not buy the whole set from Jehnert. I just bought the panels, the speakers and crossovers I got off of German Ebay for $100.

It sounds really good. The front staging is great. A lot of people think that the seats get in the way of the speakers. But the sound comes out just fine. :D

Sweet! I also believe the 6.5's firing into the seat won't matter, because the dash speakers do all the imaging & staging anyway. :) Where did you put the 15 in the trunk, and what kind of sub? That's the one thing I haven't a clue how I'm going to do yet... how to get a whole pile o' bass without losing my whole trunk! Have any photos of your Jehnert or subwoofer setup?

:D :D

Thanks again,
