Question S420/140 Body Antenna Mast Replacement? HELP!

Hi!

I have a 96' S420 and have replaced many antenna masts. This one is giving me trouble. I guess there is some of the cord still wrapped in the motor. Under the normal, I just roll it in like with no problem. It will not take the cord and reel it in as usual. Yes, the motor runs fine. I guess I need to take the unit apart and get the remaining cord out of the motor. My question is, how do you remove the cover to get to the remaining cord? It will rotate (the cover) but will not come off. It looks as if it can all be done w/o removing the entire antenna. Can anyone help me with this???

Thanks!

I had a similar problem and had to remove the antenna unit from the trunk so i could disassemble. After removing from your car car trunk you will be able to "un-snap" the motor unit using the help of a flat head screw driver and gain access to gears and internal parts. It's not a difficult job for a DIYer..

Lightbulb S420/140 Body Antenna Mast Replacement? UPDATE HERE!

I removed the antenna unit from the trunk, took it apart and found one of the ears on one of the two rotating wheels was broken off. Can these gears be ordered? Can this be JB welded with any luck? Does anyone out there have a used antenna, working or not, they would part with so I can get this gear I need? Sure not looking to spend $500 on a new unit!

I purchased a used antenna motor unit on ebay and used it for parts to fix my original one. It's been over a year ago, but I think I paid around $20 for the used part.
