Talking

Hey Patrick, I leave for the states on the 17 of sept. So I will get you the pictures around then. As far as speakers go are you looking for component speakers or just a pair of 6.5's.? If your looking for good component I would go with JL TR650-CSi. They are get sounding speakers. You can check them out. http://www.jlaudio.com/evolution/TR650CSi.html . If you just looking for a pair of 6.5's I would go for JL or Alpine Type Rs. You can get the speakers for good prices on ebay. There not to expensive. If you are realy on a buget try looking at some alpine type S , kenwood or rockford fosgate. As for the Head unit Ill talk to my dad, he's an expert when it comes car audio.

Regards, Conor.

hey Conor!

thanks for that - i would love to know if the Sony CDX-M730 is Euro-tunable!

as for the speakers they will definately be components.

i was thinking of some Lanzars like this..

http://www.lanzar.com/itempage.asp?model=AS6.1
what do u think of them?

i took a look at kenwood and rockford ...

could also get these i guess:

http://www.discountjungle.net/rofofn65in2c.html
http://www.discountjungle.net/noname1.html

but they cost 20 and 10 dollars more, respectively.

which do u think are the best? and more specifically what do u think of the lanzars?

i was thinking about a lanzar amp as well - the VIBE428.
do u think its a good amp? its quite cheap and i am suspecting it being over-rated at 125RMS x 4 (into 4 ohms)

could go for this one as well...

http://www.soundstormlab.com/products/AMP%20pics/F250.4.jpg

as you can see, ANY type of suggestions would be welcome

btw: the sub is the only part i am somewhat decided on. An Infinity 1230W 12". (1230W is the model no. not the power rating)

Patrick.

I would use the kenwoods.
The swivel tweeter is nice to have,
this way you can aim it to your taste.

Are you going to use the 4 channel amp
to power the subwoofer?

This will not work because the subwoofer is
a single voicecoil,thus using only 1 channel.

Even if you bridge the 4 channels into 2
then you still have one left over.

Instead buy a 2 channel amp and bridge that
into 1 channel.

One amp to consider is the phoenix gold octane
R4.0:2 (125x2-400x1)
Even overinflated this would give you
250-300Wx1 what is more than enough.
List price is $200

I attached a picture.

www.phoenixgold.com

On the Sony.
Did you do a search on the Sony website.
If you can get a ownersmanual(some companies
have this on their site).

Louis

PS: Did the pictures arrive?

hey there Louis

I want a 4 channel amp cause i will be getting an infinity sub and a set of 6.5inchers for the front. i want to power them all with this amp. even if its too powerful i will adjust the input sensitivity until the sound is crystal clear.
i will bridge two of the outputs for the sub (about 300 RMS which is fine for me)

i tried looking at sony and phoenix gold but either they are too expensive for my budget or i found something else...

closest i've found to my budget and wants, are these two i mentioned. what do you think about them? do you think they're too cheap? hope not

Thanks for the pics btw - i got them

Patrick.

The soundstorm one I would leave where it
is.
The quality is far below par and will cause you
more grief than joy.
I bought a amp in the same quality range and
It was advertised as 200x2 but put-out 15x2
RMS and sounded worse than the radio I had
at the time.
It burned out 2 months after I bought it and
would cost more to fix than what I paid for it.

Lanzar was bought and now is sold together
with pyramid,legacy and pyle.
These are all low quality and on the cheaper
side products.
Altough they do have their place on the market
but if you want a product that will last you
will need to buy a better product.

Lanzar does have a nice amplifier line and that
is the OPTI-drive line but the cost is also alot
higher.

Go to www.carstereotime.com
Phoenix Gold octane R5.0:4 is $169

Yes it is $55 more but this will be about
what you would need to pay to sent the
lanzar or soundstorm to have it fixed or
replaced when it brakes.

But tastes vary and the ultimate choice is yours
to make.

hmm thanks for that.
means i have to fork out more cash then

i am also taking some advice from another friend and he keeps on and on to get better speakers as well (peerless)
guess you all are right of course.. will see what i can afford.

how about a Kicker amp then? the KX600.4 amp

75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
300 watts x 2 in bridged mode
Speaker- and preamp-level inputs
Front and rear high-pass/low-pass crossovers (variable 50-200 Hz, 12 dB per octave)
Front/rear bass boost (0-18 dB at 40 Hz)
Remote gain control with 25-foot cable
Frequency response 20-20,000 Hz
Requires 4-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
Unregulated Class A/B power supply offers a massive increase in power at 2 ohms

what do u think?

costs 207 dollars...... which is too much

Kicker is very good but somewhat costly.

Look around on that site I gave you.
I'm sure that you can find a nice amp for
a reasonable price.

They have the cheapest well known gear
for reasonable prices.

I know, you will need to invest a little more but
in the long run it will save you, money and
aggrevation.

The Kenwood components are listed as $200
and are good speakers, you will not find any
better ones for the price.GO FOR THEM.

do you think they are better than these components..

http://www.discountjungle.net/jlaudvr6inwa.html
JL Audio VR600-CS 6-Inch 2 -Way Components System

they're priced at $169

will browse your site right now, but i doubt they have better prices than this company

re the amp..... hmm i will need to think more about this it seems!

Hi Patrick.

You are correct, your site is cheaper.

The JL audio's are alot better than the
Kenwoods but you don't get the tweeter
swivel mounting option on the JL's and that
can make the Kenwoods sound as good
as the JL's.
Because you can aim them at your ears,
this makes them more versitile and since
the highs are directional you won't loose
as much of your imaging, thus making them
sound clearer.
If you are on a tight budget then the Kenwoods
are better for you.

But you could built the doorpods so that
the tweeters are aimed at your ears.

thanks for all the advise dudez

i changed the plans slightly... this is what i have in mind right now:

Amp - KICKER KX600.4 600W 4CH Amplifier - $207
Sub - Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 - $138
Fronts - Focal 165-V2 Polyglass - $234.90

what do you guys think about this system?

the products i picked are very top of the range, up to my knowledge. so your experience will be appreciated

my only worry is, will the sub have enough power from 2 bridged chanels from the amp? the amp pumps out 4 x 75w RMS @ 4 ohms @ 13.8v @ 0.085% THD. so it should give 150w RMS at these paramters to the sub. of course it could go over 150 but then distortion will go up as well. THD will be 0.4% @ 300W RMS into 4 ohms

any comments?

Hi Patrick.

Very,very,very good system.

These items are all top of the line products
and should give you long service.

The nice bit about Kicker is that usually
they underrate their amps so you might
get more like 90Wx4 and 160W-170Wx2.

I don't know the RMS rating for the sub,
my book says 300W but no mention of RMS
or Peak power.but it should be close to 150W-160W
and the kicker will do just fine.

The focal speakers are very good and you
will be very pleased with their performance.

Louis.

THANKS Louis!!!!

that means a lot to me.
and another thing on kicker amps, the wattage is rated at 13.8v while most others wate them at 14.4 so will look higher than the kicker's.

i now only hope that the focals fit! if not i will SWEAR LoL

if they don't i will have to make a custom kick panel on the bottom of the door and install them there. which will leave me with 4" holes in the doors (where there are the old speakers). maybe then i will fabricate a piece of wood to mount the tweeter there, i dunno!
but they should fit..

again thanks for all the help

Hi again everyone

@gta: I know you are not in the States yet, but I would like to ask you a question. You installed the speakers at the bottom of the door, right?

The current (old) speakers right now are not at the bottom but nearer to the handle .. I will attach a pic for you to see.

My problem is, i THINK the 6.5 will be too big to fit there. I will need to fit a spacer to put it out.. or worse still, it will be too wide.
then i have to fit a custom kickpanel and install it on the bottom. which will leave me with an extra speaker hole

do you think there is enough space for the 6.5, where the blk spot is on the door? its not my car, i just found a pic and photoshopped the black circle in the speaker-place.

PS: if you have any news re euro-tuning Pioneers let me know

i am thinking of getting a DEH-7500MP from the US, it is also listed on the Pioneer Europe web site so it SHOULD tune to european frequencies no? unless US DEH-7500MPs are different to european DEH-7500MPs

Did this install ever happen? I'm trying to revive some old threads to get some input on component placements for my car. Anyone installed components in their 123?

yep, i had bought this system and installed it and was very pleased with it.

then the amp started playing up and ended up blowing both the Focal woofers

Then i repaired it myself and decided to treat myself to a nice new set of Focal Utopia 165W

They are even bigger and deeper, and do not fit easily, but i managed to do it.

everything is now dismantled cause my car is in for a full respray, but these are some pics of the install.

in the pics, where the spacer is visible is the older Polyglass. when i did the utopias i made a bigger spacer (20mm i think, out of wood) and put it in between the door card and the door. then put the speaker on the door card. i had to bend the door card though. and the inside door handles do not fit exactly.. but as i said these utopias' magnet is huge.

let me know if you have any questions.
