W123 audio
has anyone fitted any speakers in the front doors?
my dad had cut the doors to fit 4" Pioneer speakers when he bought the car 20 yrs ago - now that i'm driving it I want to upgrade the system! does anyone know if 6.5" speakers will fit? i am thinking about getting some Infinity Kappa 62.5i 6 1/2" 2-way jobbies for both front and rear... i just dont know if they fit up front. they should fit in the rear shelf no? btw, now we're here.. has anyone ever used www.discountjungle.net ? they seem to have the best prices on the net but i am not sure if it will be possible to ship the stuff over from the US to Malta (europe) ... any advice? thanks beforehand Patrick |
Hey, I have JL audio 3 way speakers in my front doors. I can send you picture and more info if you like? Get back to me.
Regards, Conor. |
hey there gta (do you have an alfa GTA? ;) ;))
yes i am very interested in this! i took the front speakers out today and i THINK that i should be able to fit 5.25 or 6.5 ... if you could send me some pics i'll be delighted! :D what size are yours? 6.5s? did they fit ok? do you need spacers, etc? thanks again ;) Patrick |
Hey Patrick, I dont have a gta but my dad does. I have one 6.5-inch, one 4-inch Midrange and one 1-inch Tweeter on both doors. What your going to have to do is build them out from the door. I had to take off the door pokets and build them out with wood covered in matching vinal. It may sound bad but I looks awsome. I wont be able to send you pictures right now because im in Ireland for two weeks and my car is in the US. As soon as I get back Ill send you the pictures. By the way what model is you benz?
Keep in touch. Regards, Conor. '83 300CD Turbo |
well how about that for a coincidence ;)
me dad has a 147 (not a gta though!) ... it turned me into a real Alfa freak :D anyway, me benz is a 1981 200. W123 series of course. its the normal 4 door saloon not the T-model or coupe. i am curious as to how you could ever fit all those speakers in the doors. wish i could see some pics :) hopefully in two weeks time i would have ordered the system. so by the time i get them maybe i would have gotten some pointers :) i am still not sure which speakers i'm gonna get but after reading your posts i am sure they will be 6.5 inchers. probably Lanzar? or Kicker components. what would you suggest? i am rather tight on budget but would like to have decent front speakers. btw: do you know if US headunits are compatible in Europe? friend of mine got a pioneer from the us and the tuner only tunes to odd numbers :( is this normal? i'm thinking of the sony cdx-m730 .. cant find if it has the same 'feature' |
Hi Banflu.
Here are some pictures of what you could do with the doors, altough the are not from MB's I'm sure that they will help you see what is possible. The first pictures are front door speaker pods, some custom made some you can buy. The other Pictures are for illustration only, it shows you the work involved to make custom panels. As you can see, next to the subwoofers there are component speakers and that panel is made from original interior trimpanels. Hope this helps. Louis. |
Hi Louis
