Need audio repairman !

I have just received my M-B cd changer, which I purchased used, in the mail
When I unpacked it, I noticed something rattling around inside.
After a bit of shaking ( like a piggy bank ), I discovered a small plastic disc, about 1" in diameter, with 4 holes in it about 1/4" diameter.
What do I do now?
Is it , to quote one of our moderators " busticated " ?

Thanks

manny

What color plastic?

Can you describe the configuration of the 4 holes, or better yet post an image of the disc?

I am not very good with pictures.
It is a black plastic disc, about 1 " in diameter, with 4 equally spaced 1/4" holes just in from the outer edge.
It also has a small ( maybe 1/16" )hole in the very centre, making me think it would attach to a small shaft.

OK, not coming up with anything. How thick is it? Is it a glossy plastic or dull? What is the edge like, pointy/sharp, or more of a flat edge? Can you try installing it to see if it'll work? Have you tried contacting the seller?

Gilly

PS is that hole in the center possibly threaded?
May be part of the suspension cushions on the side I'm thinking

Thanks for your interest.
I have, in the meantime, taken the cover off to see if anything would " jump out " at me.
I noticed the suspension discs c/w. cushions are all ( 4 ) in place.
The small hole in the centre is not threaded, leaving me to suspect if it fit over a shaft, there would have to be some kind of retainer, to keep it from popping off. No such retainer found.
I will try to install it tomorrow & see what happens.
If it doesn't work I will take pictures of the disc, and figure out how to post them on here.
The seller has been made aware of this, but I would honestly have to blame the mail for it, as one corner of the parcel was slightly damaged when I received it.

Thanks manny

Well, I installed my recently purchased ( used )CD Changer , and all I get is error messages.
I loaded the magazine, turned on the radio, selected CD, at which point the unit scans through all the discs & keeps saying " No disc # 1 , no disc # 2, etc.
Eventually it displays " Magazine empty ".
Could anybody help me with this ?

Spindle

The disc you found is the Spindle disk that is normally mounted to the Spindle motor which is located in the middle of the machine. The disk keeps the CD centered while spinning the CD for play. It may just need to be reinstalled but the disk doesn't come off that easily so I would wonder if it was dropped in shipping. Is the box that it came in crushed on one side?

In regards to it not operating correctly, maybe it's because of the missing part, or it may be that the radio isn't programmed yet for the CD changer. The internal "version coding" of the radio has to be changed to reflect the addition of the CD changer.

After looking inside of the machine, I noticed a motor, with just a " bare " shaft sticking up.
I installed the above mentioned disc on the shaft, with the cd-centering protrusion facing up.
This was quite simply achieved with needlenose pliers.
I figure this out after looking at the disc & comparing the centre protrusion.
Sure enough, same size as the centre hole of a cd.
It stays in place on the shaft quite nicely.
Still the same error message.

Oh, oh, I just found a second disc.
This one is metal, same size as the plastic one, and has a " plastic " edge.
It also has two ( 1/4" ) holes between the centre and outside edge.
It has a recessed centre ( slightly dropped ) with a small plastic insert.
Where does it go?
Thanks, I know I'm a p.i.t.a.

Got Dropped

Hi Manny,
It sure sounds like it got dropped pretty hard to knock those pieces off where they belong. I can only hope that the changer will work once the parts are reinstalled. Let me know if you need my help.

Thank you for your assistance.
If you don't mind, I will call you within the next couple of days, to find out where the metal disc goes.
If all else fails, maybe I can send it to you for repair/

Thanks manny

Manny,

It's obviously the mail handlers' fault. IF you want, I'll file for insurance to try to recoup some of the cost, but then again, I think it might take forever to see any kind of money from USPS.

I'm sorry i came all banged up

I even tested it out in my car to make sure it worked and it was no problem! I had it packed pretty good though, but I guess it nothing could've prevented a drop.

Did the package have "FRAGILE" on it, because if I recall, I asked the post office to put those tags on.

Well, I hope things work out

Thank you too for your concern.
The package did not have any "fragile" stickers on it.
I will try to work with cleeve on this one.
For now all I would like to know is where the metal disc goes, as I've managed to get the plastic disc back in place.
Once I replace this & it doesn't work, I will likely send it to LaJolla Audio for repair.
Don't worry about it.
Like the bumpersticker says " s.... happens ".
