Front kick panel speakers in a 123?
With the inherent limitations of the dash mounted 4 inch front speakers, I am considering building a kick panel pod for a 4 inch mid and 1” tweeter. Has anyone here done this in a 123, or listened to one set up this way? With the “upright” seating position in a 123 my concern would be a low soundstage. These speakers will be part of a well amplified system that will include rear shelf speakers and a sub.
Thanks, John |

Hi John.
I read many carstereo magazines and I see many SUV's and P/U trucks that are sound competition vehicles and most use the kickpanels. Now,some have the same concern as you do. Their solution is to add extra tweeters, usually on the window pillar, doorpod(custom) or since you won't be using the stock speaker holes in the dash you could add a set of tweeters there. This will lift the soundstage making your car sound even SWEEEEEETER!!!!!!! Good luck. PS: First try the kickpanels,if you still think the soundstage is to low you can still add the extra tweeters without to much trouble and work. And it will save you some money. Louis. |
