I agree...
I have a friend who has his iPod wired in but he has the hardest time trying to read the screen and select songs. He said it is too dangerous for him to try to select menus/settings/songs unless he is stopped at a light. If the controls are integrated in the HU, there is 1 less thing to have to look at.
Although I also completely agree that the sound with RCA cables would be just as good and probably is really inexpensive.

I've got the Ipod wired into the center console, thru. aux input on back of Nak. and power run up from below. I wired the aux. control through the bottom and velcroed to the outside near the side of my seat where I can access skip songs, pause, etc. without looking. I just leaving the thing on random shuffle. Stays charged and automatically powers down when not in use. Also, when car starts back up, it powers up but does not automatically start playing, which is nice.

cd plug in adapter works fine
I just use a cd plug in adapter cassette and get great sound from my iPod. Be sure and turn the volume on the iPod all the way up so the car amp can command all the volume from the console. You can pre select a program to fit the length of any trip and let it rip.

Whoops, correction
That should read tape deck adapter, not cd adapter. Sorry.

I have a JVC KD-SH99 receiver. It has and auxiliary jack on the front of the receiver specifically to plug in a MP3 input already. It also plays MP3 discs, and in the trunk I have a 12 disc MP3 changer.
