Radio does not get AM, please help.
Hi, I just got a 94 E500, the radio is the standard one that came with the car. When I try to listen to AM stations, I do not hear anything, I turn it up and all I get is some static. The FM stations come out fine and so do the weather stations. And the disc changer in the trunk works without any problems. Anyone experience this before? Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this. Thanks

Lose of AM reception while FM is OK is sometimes the result of a bad antenna connection or a small break in the coaxial cable. FM and high frequency WX still work because there is enough capacitive coupling to get high frequiences past the problem. Try reseating the connection at the tuner block. If a power antenna, it could be the wiper arm inside the mechanism.

Thanks
Thanks for the response, but I am a novice at this, and will see if someone can look at the connections you are talking about. Oh, also the FM cuts out when I go under a bridge, so I think you are right about the connections, but I just do not know how to fix it myself, unless someone has pictures or an easy way to do it.
Thanks |
