98sl left side speaker problem

Hi,
My new '98 SL500 is having problems with the speaker on the drivers side door. It sounds like it's working on partial power, until I crank up the volume. Once some power goes through the lines, it kicks right up to what it should normally be.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks

David

It sounds to me like an amplifier problem. There isn't a really easy test to check it. If you talk to Cleeve in my repair shop @www.lajollaaudiorepair he can help you diagnose the problem better. Happy new year!

Does anyone know the solution to this problem? I hear it is pretty common.

Thanks

David

Could be an amp, volume pot, bad or loose solder problem. If it has an actual volume knob you can remove remove it and spray some contact cleaner into the radio. I doubt this is your problem but it's worth a shot.
