Unhappy Need help with cd changer compatibility

I have read many of the posts here and have been unable to find exactly what I am looking for.

I have a '95 E420 and it still has it's stock head unit (from what I have gathered this is the Becker 1492). I found the prewired connection in my trunk and it is the rectangular 10-pin connector.

My brother-in-law replaced his entire stereo in his '93 SL500 and gave me the CD changer that came out of it. The model numbers that I can find are MC3191EV on the unit itself. Then I also have the MX3192 which I belive someone said is a "translator" that is attached to it.

On the changer itself the connections are the round 8-pin optical female space and then there are two wires comming out and ending with a 4-pin male rectangle connector. The "translator" has two 8-pin optical female spaces and one 8-pin optical male cord. It then has the same looking two wires ending in a 4-pin female connector that plugs into the male connector on the changer unit.

I would like to figure out how to get my head unit properly connected to this cd changer. Are these two units even compatable? What adapter can I use to connect it? Do I need the "Translator" or can I pull it off? Please Help. Thanks in advance.

I don't think these two units are compatible... if the cd changer comes from a 93 car's factory system, and from your desription my guess is that it's an alpine 6 cd changer, that works with the BE 1432 two piece head unit... you need the newer cd changer with the 10 pin connector that works with the BE1492+ headunits

Well, that sucks!

That completely sucks.

I figured that with the changer being from the factory and the the cars only two years apart they would have used the same changer. Teach me to think that things could actually work out easily.

I wonder if I could find someone who would be willing to either exchange me the one I have for the one I need or buy the one I have so that I could buy the right one.

most 124 M/Bs (which I assume yours is came with the BE1432) unfortunatelly in 94 M/B started using the new generation radios, so yours being the last model year (95) has that.... you can use an ordinary alpine cd changer with your factory HU (with an adaptor cable) ie an s630.... as far as the other cd changer goes, if it is in good condition take some HQ pics and put it on ebay.... cd changers that work with the BE 1432 are somewhat rare and people on buleting boards look for them ofter.... so all is not lost...

Thanks for the advice.

It is in great shape so I think I'll put it on ebay and see what I can get for it.
