W210 Crappy speakers

Hi.
I have a 1999 E-220 CDI Wagon, and all the speakers are blown.
They kinda work if I keep the volume way down, but as soon as I turn the volume up a little, all I can hear is garbage. Is this common??
What kind of speakers would you recommend for replacement?

Thanks
Steinar

Are you sure it's the speakers that causes the distortion? It could also be the receiver/amp. You could physically check the speakers if they are blown, and if they are, call Crutchfield.com if they have a replacement speakers.

I think it was the speakers that took out the amplifier in the radio a while back. Anyway I had to take the radio out, and have it fixed. (sounded like a big fishingboat in the speakers)

Was thinking of putting in some Sony speakers, but a guy told me I would need some spacers too. He also told me they had changed a lot of speakers in the MB taxis in town

Hi Steinar.

If I remember correctly the tuner and
amplifier are in the trunk and the radio
itself is just a control unit.

It sounds unlikely that all speakers are
blown at the same time.
Look for the amplifier in the trunk and I bet
that it is going in protection mode everytime
you turn the volume up.

Louis.

Edit:Sorry didn't pay attention,wagon no trunk.
They should be in the trimpanels in the back.
