The w126 had a lot of different speaker setups. Dash speakers I think were 3 1/4. Since both w126's I had only came from the factory 2 dash speakers I'm not sure on the rest. I know you can get 5 1/4 speakers in all the doors if you want to. Also you could put 6x9's in the rear fist aid spots. If you have a camera and can snaps a few pics of your speakers I can see what I can find for you.

you can go to www.carstereohelp.net and choose speaker size chart and plug in your car and it will give you the speaker sizes for the appropriate cars. Hope this helps.

Mercedes didn't make it easy...
You have 3.5in speakers in the dash, I replaced mine a few years ago. I removed the factory speakers which are mounted on a small plastic plate and "popped" the speakers out of the plate. I then screwed better (Infinity Kappa) 3.5in speakers into the plastic plates. In your rear deck you have 6.5in speakers, also mounted to special plastic housings. I did a similar thing with those...popped the originals out and glued (epoxy) better speakers to the Mercedes housings. All of this was much easier than it sounds and the car can be returned to factory condition by buying new Mercedes speakers (I haven't checked the price of the rear speakers, but the fronts are $35.00). I'd be happy to take some pictures if you like. If you want to go all out, you can purchase '89 door panels which had mounts for 6.5in speakers in the rear section of the map pocket.

JustinMorrison: What you did doesnt sound too hard. I would like to do the same thing that you did but do you think that those 3.5 infinity speakers are still in the market?? Also, for the rears?? If it isnt too much trouble, plz list the exact model line of the Infinitiy speakers and I will try to look for them

The 3.5in Infinity speakers are still available, the model # is 32.5i, the rear (6.5in) speakers are 62.5i and also seem to be available. I am currently having my door panels converted to work with a 6.5in speaker in the map pocket and I'll be using Infinity Perfect 6.5" component speakers. The mid/woofers will go in the door and the tweeters will replace the 3.5" speakers in the dash. I'll post pictures as soon as it's done (2 weeks or so.)

you may want to re think that. because when the speakers are in the doors the seat and person in the seat block the sound coming out of the speaker which is already being delivered at a level below your ears and with no ability to aim. I had this ssetup in the 500 and you would be amazed at how it effects the level of sound you hear.
What I would do is leave the dash speakers and install a Bass blocker on each and use the tweeter in another location that would be more affective (aimed at ear level) If you really want to get tricky and keep a stock look you could even put them inside the A/C vents.
Just My 2 cents

Might be easier to locate the door panels of a late-late 126 (88-91 or 90-91) that has 6.5" speakers. I think you can separate the plastic form from the upholstery so you can keep your perforated panels instead of the later pleated panels.

Benzman500:
I agree that the placement isn't perfect, however just about anything is an improvement over the 3.5 inch dash situation. The 6.5's are going in the late model (rear of door)location, simply because that is the only cosmetically acceptable solution for me. The tweeters may end up below the side view mirror ""triangle", or in the dash...we'll see what happens I guess.

Sixto:
I agree that getting late model panels would be easier, however at $500.00 each, if I can get a clean "invisible" job done on mine, it will be worth the extra work.

Try the tweeters by the side mirrors before you commit holes and wiring. I read somewhere that you get better imaging results if the tweeters are about the same distance from your ears. Putting the tweeters by the side mirrors means one is 3-4 times further than the other. In a car I used to have, I preferred the overall sound with the tweeters firing up from the kick panels than from the base of the A-pillars. Your taste may vary.

Personally for me, I can not tell a difference between tweeters mounted near the speaker and not.

I have my setup in my 300Ce as follows:

6.5" seperates in the front, the 6.5" woofer/midrange is mounted int he factory door sub location. the tweeters are mounted in ht efactory dash speaker location.

Sound is excellent as far as I am concerned.

Rears I have 5.25" seperates with the 5.25" speaker midrange in the factory pods in the rear deck, and the tweeters mounted on the rear deck behind the headrests, but not under them.

Sounds is great.

to most people, they wont be able to tell the difference in imaging, but there are those that can. me, I have no problems with my sound, and never had a problemw ith sound when someone is in the passenger seat, even though they are blocking that door speaker.

If setup with nice equipment, the system will still sound great.

Alon
