problem with original Becker radio
1989 W124 with original Becker radio.
Every time the weather turns cold, my radio simply won't work. It only starts working about an hour after the car is started. The only thing appearing on the dial is "AM" (which I never listen to) and a few volume bars. When it decides to work again, everything is normal. I' thinking of replacing this antique by a new type of radio. Everything I look at so far appear to be "Star War" type of radios with "StarWar" type of graphic and busy colors. I want a plain looking radio (with one CD would be enough) which would give me reasonnable performance. I do not intend to break glasses with my radio. it also need to be simple to install using the factory speakers and my factory antenna. A type of plug and play radio. Does this beast exits? jackD |
You have lots of options. You could upgrade to a Becker 1480 or get a factory CD Player from Germany. I got the CD player:

you can get a wiring harness from becker of na and upgrade to a newer factory cassette of the MB optional cd player or an audio 10 unit from ebay.... or if you dig in your pocket deep enough you can bet a becker monza mp3... if you want to stick factory and factory look that is...
I too don't like the flashy stuff, and I found and installed an older alpine cd player (mid 90's model) in my old w123... you might consider that option especially if you wanna retain stock speakers and fader.... here's some examples on ebay monza audio10 older alpine unit alpine 3cd indash changer |
