Ham Radio Antenna Mounting !

I am a HAM. I need to install an antenna in my 1987 300 td wagon. I dont want to drill holes in my precious Benze, and I hate mag mounts. Someone suggested removing the standard Mercedes antenna and puting the new one there. Can anyone give some ideas as to how to do this?

You didn't specify if this is for HF bands or rubber duckie bands. For HF bands, I have been thinking about installing a trailer hitch, and using an antenna mount on the hitch. AES sells a mount for trailer hitch installation. I forget what it's called, Tenna Hitch or something like that, I think. For rubber duckie bands, I think Larsen still makes a through the glass coupled antenna. You would need to avoid the rear glass due to the defroster grid, but on a wagon you could use the left side rear glass.

On the hitch mount, one thing I've been told from day-one is to never buy a Mercedes with a trailer hitch.

Would a trunk mount work? The kind that attaches to the edge of the trunk lip. You can put it in the middle of the top of the lift, thereby giving you the best reception pattern. Also, does your wagon have a roof rack? You might consider mounting there, if you have one.

I can use a mag mount for that matter, but I wanted it to look classy, as far as a glass mount, the performance is poor, i would like to replace the stock antenna....its a wagon so no trunk mount

A trunk lip mount could be used on a wagon. Most of them have a swivel mount which could be rotated around to vertical. I don't like trunk lip mounts because they scratch the paint and could bend the lip.
