Ham Radio Antenna Mounting !

I am a HAM. I need to install an antenna in my 1987 300 td wagon. I dont want to drill holes in my precious Benze, and I hate mag mounts. Someone suggested removing the standard Mercedes antenna and puting the new one there. Can anyone give some ideas as to how to do this?

you may have a built in CB antenna already. I know my 126 has one in the passenger footwell.

Assuming you are talking about a VHF/UHF antenna (and not one of the bigger HF antennas) I would recommend you get a "trunk lip mount" antenna.

I've had terrific luck with Larsen mobile antennas---they cost just a wee bit more than many, but are very, very high quality. In my experience they "get out" better than cheaper mag-mount antennas I've tried. If you get the NMO Motorola type antenna base, you can move it from one type of mounting to another---a big plus.... and it looks sleek. Mine has been on three different cars and is still working great. Don't be tempted by "thru the glass" type mounts... many installations just plain don't work!

Look at their web site, but then buy at a discount from one of the many distributors of ham equipment.

Is there an antenna already there? I have the CB wire line and connector but I don't know of anything else.
