What are the rear speaker mesurements on 91 300e?
I've read they are 5, 5.25 and 5.5. I don't want to do any mods to the car whatsoever. I just want a nice clean fit, no cutting, shaping, anything. Please let me know. Just need rear speakers for 91' 300E. Also suggestions on brands are welcome too

do a search. there are plenty of threads related to the stereo in the 124.
as i recall, they ARE NOT 4'1/2 or 5'1/4 as are the normal aftermarket replacement sizes. i bought 4 1/2s and they were too small, 5 1/4 were too big, barely. so i presume they are 5' but dont take my word for it. a search for "124 stereo" or "300E stereo" should yeild results

After doing some searching, I found that 5" speakers would fit perfect, but they are rare. how much modification needs to be done to get the 5.25 in the rear decks? How much are we looking at from an installer (just an esitmate)?

best buy is $40 a pair. it really is not that hard to get this information.
i installed my own. front needed a little cutting of dash and speaker surround to get them to fit. no problems, lots of time and elbow grease. and patience. lots and lots of it. the rears are a pain in the arse. the part of the hatshelf where they mount is not level. and the hole is too small for the body of the speaker, so it will need to be raised. or cut that high strength steel. good luck finding someone who stocks a 5 1/4 inch spacer. i couldnt. i ended up using the plastic speaker surround that came with the speakers as a spacer of sorts, with a layer of window insulation i got from home depot to quell squeeks and other unwanted noises.

Hi Snoopy.
Try this link. http://www.lajollaaudio.com They can give you good info. They are in CA and have many years of experience in MB vehicles. But any good stereo shop(read, not best buy or the like)should be able to do this in less than an hour, two at the most if you include a learning curve,as these MB's are a little more difficult to work on than other cars. Ok, I was under the impression that it would be extra to get them install, since some kind of modifications may have to be done. I read that it's a tight fit to get 5.25 speaker in there and they will have to do some trimming, so I just wanted to know how much extra they would probably charge for that.

Snoopy.
Usually regular drop in installation should be under $50 per pair. So,with some modifications you're probably looking at something between $80-$100 depending on the difficulty and degree of customazation. Anyone know for sure please chime in anytime. Louis. |
