1997 SL600 stereo question
I just bought a 97 SL 600. For some lame reason, it had a non stock deck that is no better than the Mercedes one but it still has all of the Bose stuff. I found the deck on ebay with a changer that needs a little work but the seller says it is a non fiber deck. Naturally, I car pooled today and can't check the wiring in the trunk.
I can't determine if it's fiber from alldatadiy.com schematic, either. Does the Becker deck that comes in the 97 SL have a fiber or copper connection or possibly both? Thank You, Lee. |

Generally, M-B did not start using F.O. until 1998, and all reference I have for our D/A F.O. interface product states since 1998!
Can't be absolutely sure, but the '97 should be a non F.O. interface. |

No fiber optics in your car the stock deck should be a becker 1692 or an alpine 2296... If you need a cd changer for it I sell the alpine 6 cd changer and a logic adapter that plugs directly into the stock harness at the trunk on the left side....

stock cd
Scott, I'm getting the 6 cd changer with the deck but it has some problem. Is it cheaper to get it fixed or get a new one like you have?

It is usually a little more to get a new one but it will last longer. There are two options on plays mp3 cd's and the other doesn't.

MP3s?
I would definitely want to be able to play MP3's. How much of a pain is it to install? Is it just the adapter?
What's the going rate for the adapter and the changer? Finally, will all of the functions work from the HU? Thanks- Lee. |
