I replaced the radio antenna and it still will not retract all the way. Are there any limit switches that can or need to be adjusted. If I put the antenna switch on the dash in the full up position and operate the radio on and off the antenna will extend and retract properly, but if the switch is in the center position the antenna will not retract all the way. Thanks in advance.

This is normal. Up position equals full extension. Mid position equals 1/2 extension, down position equals no extension.
Don't ask me why

I understand that. My problem is that the antenna does not retract fully when the radio is turned off. It used to before it got bent, once I replaced the mast I thought that would fix it. It has about 2 to 4 inches left sticking out. My reference to the antenna switch is that the only time it will fully retract is with the antenna button in the full up postion. I apologise if I was not clear in my original post.

Try cleaning and lubricating the mast. I'll bet that cures the problem. if not, then remove the mast and reinstall the drive cable into the motor. Check it to see if it'sworn out or missing any teeth.

I did the following when I replaced my mast a few weeks ago:
I took the cover off the power antenna assebly, put the switch to "ant max," removed the old mast, put in the new mast and made sure the end of the plastic line of the mast bottomed out against the "rollers" inside the assembly. Then, I turned off the radio to retract the mast. It seems unnecessary to take the cover off, but it worked for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I will check tose items, just as a point of reference the antenna mast is only a week old. The teeth you are talking about, are they on the drive cable or inside the motor assembly itself. Thanks again.

The teeth are on the plastic cable part of the mast that goes into the motor. I doubt your mast has teeth, more like subtle grooves. I think '84 and up antenna masts had teeth.

It sounds to me like the circuit board in the antenna unit has gone around the bend. It gets a signal from the dash switch to change the antenna height, and it is sending wrong "commands" to the motor with the switch in the middle position.

I would just leave the switch in the full UP position.

shoe,
I would not wory about it. My antena does the same thing. The cause of the problem, at least in my antenna, is that the roller that puts pressure on the antena rod is bent. The roller is a bearing on an arm loaded with a spring that forces the rod against the motorized retract/extend wheel. I don't remember why but it seemed imposible, or at least very hard to straighten out the arm and make it right.
You can try to open your antenna cover and see if you can maybee tweek the arm and make it push against the wheel.
Good luck

Mark.
