Steering Wheel Leather Cracking

the top/left side of my wheel is starting to crack where there is a large amount of wear from age (plus this is my favourite wheel 'position') and I think also from sitting in the sun most of the day- are there any good products that don't cost the earth that can help mend it or at least help stop it cracking further? (I've started to cover the dash and wheel in the daytime now to stop direct sun).

Try Griot's Garage Leather Rejuvenator and/or Leather Care.

Kiwi Clear Shoe cream is the cheapest and best way to fix your problem. I should know I had the same problem.

It will work better then anything else (even the most expensive treatment) that you can buy.

I beg to disagree with KSING44, and all others. I stand by me previous response.

The Kiwi Product works GREAT, last a long time, and does a better job then any other prodcut (at any price) that I tried.

I think KIWI is good too

I still use the KIWI Cream, but it just doesn't seem to be the miracle that I originally thought it was. Right now I just use a little bit of the Leatherique or any other kind of leather care product to add some moisture to the leather and then I use the KIWI to add the shine and kind of seal the leather. I just found that the shoe polish was not preventing the wheel from drying in the intense summer heat. It was fine until it got real hot. I still like it. It just didn't solve all of my problems. I think it is still worth a try.

Still Looking for a Solution

I have only used the cream and there was no problem with it being tacky. I am sorry, but I have never used the products that you mentioned. I am still looking for a permanent solution. I am thinking about re-dying the leather wheel with something that has a protective shiny finish. I have not identified the product, but I may turn to Leatherique.

If you use Leatherique (which I do) you really need to let the revunator soak in and do its job; then apply the pristine clean to clean and buff the leather. The revunator will make the leather sticky and tacky with the contaminants it brings to the surface...pristine clean finishes it off nice. Try it....I know the stuff is more $$ but it is one of the best leather products out there I've found.

Even better results with several applications...my old cardboard (literally was) leather in the 500E is coming back much softer and pliable; 100 times improvement.
