any expert opinions on "Best- sparkplug" to use? 1980 500SEL EURO_CAR

I'm stil having problems identifying things under the Hood of my 80'500SEL
Between the two walls there is a 6" long black cover. It sits near the top befor the vent grate. It houses a Metalic looking relay, or something??? I honestly don't know what it is. I've looked in all of my books but don't see a picture of it anywhere. Anyone have a clue?
